“Some companies are concerned about intellectual property (IP) rights,” said Professor Wang. “Our Academy is open-minded and our policies are flexible. FMCG market declined in the third quarter, lower tariffs on imports might stimulate consumption next year

西交利物浦大学

Published on:17 December 2021

Summary: Recently, Bain & Company released the 2021 China Shopper Report and analysed the current Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) market in China.

Statistics show that during the first half of 2021, China’s expenditure on FMCG dropped sharply but rebounded during the second half. However, in the third quarter of 2021, the overall performance of the FMCG market fell 0.8% from the same time in 2020.

The report also mentioned that the Chinese government will lower tariffs on certain commodities in 2022, which will in turn stimulate consumption. These commodities include baby clothing, dishwashers, ski equipment, salmon, cod and other aquatic products.

Dr Samuel Kwok, Associate Professor from the Department of Accounting at Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University, said: “Currently, the prices of commodities and raw materials have increased, and the supply chain is under great pressure.”

Tariff reduction creates economic benefits and saves costs because foreign products will become less expensive. “There will be a significant increase in consumption because many industries will be involved, such as engineering, agriculture and medicine,” Dr Kwok said.
